week 5: collaborative communities

This week we were introduced to collaborative communities which is where there is a page on a specific topic which everyone has access to and can put their own input. You do this by going onto the page and writing/posting what you feel is appropriate to the the topic and click save. After doing this everyone is able to see the new information you have added to it. Also, after doing this others are also able to access the page and either edit the information you have written or add some extra information to it.

The good points about wiki is that you have many facts and opinions from all different sources from all around the world; you can have a wiki page on any topic you like; you can edit and add information to a page as many times as you want. However the bad points about wiki is that you cant be positive where the information is from and therefore the source and information isnt reliable enough to be confirmed as facts; anyone can edit or change information; its not positive when the information was written.

week 4: reflective learning

What I have learnt about reflective learning is that to reflect it involves thinking over a task and considering what you learnt, how you learnt it and what you use to learn it. For example, this week we learnt about the topic reflective learning through using a mind-map online. Doing this task I have learnt not only about reflective learning but also using the mind-mapping method on the computer.

Through doing reflective learning you also look at what parts of the learning process you found easy and what parts you found difficult. This week I found it difficult creating a mind-map online as I havent done it before. However, I found summarising reflective learning quite easy as we did it as a group so that we all had input on the idea of what reflective learning involves. By looking at what you found difficult or easy you are able to find out what your strengthes or weaknesses are while learning and therefore can focus on them more.

Finally, I now know too that reflective learning is a good way to check your overall learning experience.

Task 2. : My Evalution Of A website Presentation Done In Class

The website/presentation I found most fun and interested for me was the website about dinosaurs. Even though it was fairly basic and a link from a national museum website I would still go on it as I found it interesting and different. I enjoy being able to see pictures and videos of lots of different dinosaurs. I also enjoyed being able to find out details of all different dinosaurs and where their remains where found. Overall, out of all the websites I saw, it would be the one I'd most likely enjoy using.

About Me & Education/Career

Heyy everyone, I'm Rhiannon, 20yrs old, from Cardiff. I'm not really good at writing blogs, but I'll give it a go :).

As I am doing this blog for my university course I figure I will tell you firstly about my acedemic life so far. I started off at Gladstone Primary School as it was where my older brother went to school and it is litterally around the corner from my house, however my mum noticed that I had problems, I struggled with my speech. I was statement with speech & language problems and moved schools to Allensbank Primary School where they have special classes for children with specific speech & language problems.

After I completed primary school, I went to Cathays High School where I continued to be statemented with speech and language problems but after a couple of years was soon unstatement as they were satisfied my problems were overcome. I left high school with 11 GCSE's, 6 Cs and 5 Bs. All of my family and friends were very proud of me.

I then continued with my education and went to Saint Davids Catholic College where I took a childcare and education diploma cache level 3. I passed the course with 3 B grades.

A couple of months after college i got my first ever job in Darling Buds Nursery which I really struggled with at the begining and I felt like I really couldn't cope with it so I went part-time at that job and did supply work in other nurseries & schools also. However, eventually I got lazy and just stuck with my nursery job.

After about a year and a half I got to know that working in a nursery WASN'T the job I wanted to do for life, so I applied to universities. I got accepted in only one university, Swansea Metropolitan University. And now it is Tuesday, 18th October, 2011. I live in student accomodation, doing an Educational Studies course, I've made a couple of friends, sometimes feel a bit homesick :/ and at the moment im suffering from a chest infection....but so far all is good :D.
